Drink & Draw

Details of Current sessions→

Relax and unwind on a Tuesday evening in my drink and draw sessions in the upstairs room at the Rising Sun, Heathcote Road, Epsom, KT18 5DX. When you arrive get yourself a drink and make your way upstairs and you will find us there.

Sessions run term-time Tuesdays from 7pm to 8.30pm and cost £12 to cover tuition and materials. Booking essential.

This drop-in event is aimed at those who would like to join a drawing class but perhaps don’t feel confident enough or don’t have the time to commit to a long term course. The classes are suitable for beginners and more experienced alike. All materials are supplied along with guidance and of course the pleasure of making art with others.

Sessions will cover different techniques, processes and topics each week so the more you attend the more you will discover. We will explore different materials for example pencil, charcoal, chalk pastel and oil pastel on a variety surfaces. Over time you will start to build an understanding of different techniques and find a drawing language of your own. Many of the main themes will then be revisited during monthly workshops that will be run as demand dictates.

Each workshop will build your skills by starting with basic methods and techniques. As the day progresses we will work together to start to find the methods that really work for you.

In keeping with the theme of the location, workshops include:

Lager & Life; we will use the genre of still life as an opportunity to explore drawing from life in more depth looking at observational drawing techniques, building up to shading and using tone to create structure and form.

Ale & Scale; explore how to create depth in a work of art using formal perspective techniques, mark-making and colour.

Measure & Movement; looking at key art movements and what we can learn from them.

Session & Expression; an unmissable day workshop exploring the expressive nature of drawing through experimentation and ‘mistake’ making.

Liquor & Figure; a chance to try life drawing.
